About Us
From clinic to field: why we created Barefootball
As a sports podiatrist, I see the consequences of traditional soccer footwear daily in my practice: deformed toes, ingrown toenails, chronic pain, and recurring injuries. For too many years, the industry has prioritized aesthetics and performance over the actual anatomy of the human foot and its health.
Accepting that foot pain is "normal" after a game is a mistake. Barefootball is not born from a marketing strategy, but from a clinical need. Unable to find a boot on the market that respected the biomechanics of the foot for my patients, I decided to develop one.
Design based on anatomy, not trends. Our boots are designed for artificial turf and are based on three essential technical principles:
- Foot-shaped last: We designed an anatomical toe box that provides real space for the toes. Enough space to prevent compression and the necessary support for athletic activity. Freedom for your toes does not mean a loose fit; we guarantee the optimal and secure support required by soccer movements and stops.
- Flexible sole: The foot has joints for a reason. Our sole allows the foot to flex and move naturally, activating the musculature instead of atrophying it within a rigid block. This often requires progressive adaptation, but the result is a much stronger and more functional foot.
- Quality materials, fair price: We use technical microfiber to ensure the durability and performance required by soccer. Our goal is to offer a high-end product, while adjusting margins to make foot health care as accessible as possible.
Who Barefootball is for
We don't promise you'll play like a professional by wearing our boots. What we do guarantee is that your foot will function as it should. We focus on:
- Children: To protect the natural development of their feet and prevent them from growing up with deformities caused by footwear.
- Adults: Whether casual players, coaches, or people who already wear barefoot (respectful) footwear in their daily lives and suffer every time they have to put on traditional soccer boots.
Our identity
Our design reflects our way of thinking: black, sober boots, with our logo in white. No fluorescent colors, no distractions, and no miraculous promises. Just science, anatomy, and common sense applied to sports.
The horizon: Where we want to go
The launch of our first model for artificial turf is our starting point. As an independent project born from clinical practice, we are honest about our current capabilities, but we have a very clear vision of where we would like to take the evolution of sports footwear in the future:
- Transition and competition soles: We know that adapting to barefoot footwear takes time. In the future, we would love to be able to develop models with slightly stiffer soles, designed to facilitate the transition for those coming from traditional footwear or for those seeking an extra boost of responsiveness in high-level competition, always respecting toe freedom.
- The leap to natural grass: One of our major goals is to manufacture specific soleplates with studs for natural grass fields, ensuring secure traction under our same biomechanical philosophy.
- "Plus" lasts: Human anatomy is diverse. We would very much like to offer a line of lasts with more volume for players with exceptionally wide feet, ensuring that absolutely no one has to compress their toes to play.
- More aesthetic options: Although our first model is a sober black and white statement of intent, we would like to progressively expand the color palette and designs, without ever losing focus on performance and health.
- New playing fields: The need to protect foot anatomy is not exclusive to 11-a-side soccer. Our long-term dream is to adapt this technology to other disciplines that also severely punish feet, such as futsal or rugby.
